Collection NATURAL - fake illusions was sellected to be featured in AUTOR Magazine the annual publication focused on contemporary jewellery that documents the way we choose to decorate our bodies. It is also the natural extension of AUTOR Contemporary Jewellery Fair, based in Bucharest, Romania. AUTOR Magazine is dedicated to contemporary jewelry and to the multiple ways it influences our mentality, style, creativity, society and interpersonal relationships. Claiming that “we are more and more surrounded by artificial products and experiences”, Slovak designer Annamaria Mikulik crafted a collection of contemporary jewellery contemplating the paradox of materialization of natural forms by synthetic materials.
Inspired by nature, her jewellery is uncovering the world’s warning statistics about replacing true nature with fake illusions.
Mikulik’s jewellery makes a standing point towards the loss of natural balance in today’s demographics and consumerist culture, arguing that society encourages us to slowly forget the real scent of plants or taste of unmodified food. “The media ingrains in our systems that we should like imitations of reality”, she explains.
Besides of its aesthetic function and ability to channel hidden emotions, Mikulik believes contemporary jewellery remains an important messenger of its wearer’s personal philosophy.
“I want to remind people that there is a natural beauty out there, different from the enhanced beauty they have been accustomed with, that there is a certain weirdness to perceive in contact with a natural ingredient that has maintained its natural beauty. Aside from being an authentic statement, contemporary jewellery is also a fancy communication channel”.
